My Heart Is Browner Than My Skin: Race, Mental Health, & Sport | Lisa Bonta Sumii | TEDxWilmington

In her TEDxWilmington talk, Lisa Bonta Sumii discussed her experience with mixed-race identity, mental health, and athletic identity. Lisa Bonta Sumii, LCSW, CSW is a psychotherapist with over 21 years of clinical experience working primarily with BIPOC individuals and couples, specializing in mixed-race identity development, and most recently, elite athletes, at all levels. She is listed in the USOPC's Mental Health Registry and in the NFLPA's Clinician Directory. Lisa is also pursuing the Certified Mental Performance Consultant designation through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology. She has been featured in publications such as Time Magazine, Teen Vogue, the BBC World News, and Women's Health Magazine. Lisa is the host of the AthMindset podcast series, on the SportsEpreneur podcast platform. She lives in Alameda, CA with her husband, Aron, her 15 year old daughter, Malaya, her 7 year old son, Jaxon and her mother, Cynthia. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
